Just perfect... I finally went up into the hills to my old favourite snow-boarding spot... Its pretty much the highest point you can get to around here by main road and there's a handy parking space and just one gate into a perfect little snow-boarding playground.

Once at the top of the hill you can go in any direction down and around it to give a pretty long spiralling run around the hill on either your toe-edge or heel-edge. Or you can striaght line it down one slope, over a little rise that you can get some air off and then into a gulley which you can carve from edge to edge back and forth across the gulley as if it was a giant, shallow half-pipe. You then come out of this gulley over a little rise and into another gulley that gets narrower and narrower as it plunges down toward the parking space. There are a few obstacles in this gulley such as a big sheep feeding trough about 10 foot long and 5 foot high, but they give you something to carve around. As you get to the bottom you can even get a ittle bit of air off the top of a few lumps as you carve hard off the top of the gulley.... Its not too much of a walk back up the hill after either. Although, with the snow thigh deep in places it can still be pretty hard going.

I was up there on my own and had quite a few runs. I seemed to improve on each run and by the end was carving some really nice fast turns and leaving some nice lines all over the hill. I was also getting used to the look of the snow so knew when it was going from the shallower icey fast stuff into big deep mounds of powder perfect for banking big turns in. In the end I was just aiming for these deep spots and carving as hard as I could into them.

I'm sure its not as good as being in a proper snowboard resort, but its as good as it gets here in Wales, and as the sun was shining and the conditions just perfect for me I was completely stoked at the end of it so am going to have to give it 5 stars.... That is until I go on a proper snowboard holiday!
